    Good picture there Paul, there used to be around 80,000 to 100,000 litres of Diesel kept down there all the time. That way there would always be diesel in case of fuel delivery problems or industrial disputes and there would be enough for the buses & coaches to run for at least 5 to 6 weeks.

    I have some pictures some where of the tank room being built and the tanks being installed, in about 1954 I think.

    On the other side of the garage where the old oil heater tank and heater unit is below ground, well that area used to be empty and that I understand was the air raid shelter for the drivers during the war. I also understand around 6 staff were killed when a sell landed near that shelter.
