  This is a loss. I've admired Dennis Hopper for years, and to this day no actor alive has ever topped his outstanding performance as Frank in David Lynch's Blue Velvet. His study of human evil and depravity in this role remains a benchmark in acting brilliance. He was brilliant in Easy Rider, hugely entertaining in Romero's Land of the Dead, and he was the only good thing in the terrible Waterworld. He leaves an impressive body of work.
