11:0229710just got back from town and the annual event is taking place in market square.
blowing a gale there but the stall holders and people dressed up would welcome any support from us.
they certainly deserve it.

14:5529722Isn't this being held/organised by the old Dover Carnival Association that was discredited some years ago ?
Maybe something like this could be run by DTC or the real DCAL.

07:3129784Well I don't want to drag it all up again either, but they lost money and did not produce accounts for a number of years. There are other issues that I'm not prepared to air in public.

08:0329790Apart from the politics of the different carnival associations I like the idea of a Dickens Festival. I didnt get to the one in Market Sq but hopefully it went okay. It has been running for a year or two now as I remember but with a date pushed into october...well its hard to make an october event work the way a june or july event works.
The one in Rochester is very good, very big, not sure what time of the year that is on but it definitely looks the business and its growing as they get plenty of tv coverage for it.

20:5830706A Dickens theme would be more appropriate around Christmas I`d have thought. So much going on during the summer month`s,(including holidays), I would have thought alot of people would like a rest from attractions. Do the former market square up with Victorian lanterns etc in December, should attract some revenue to the local shops? But for heavens sake, shut that obtrusive tv screen off first.

21:3330711you are forgetting one thing colin, once the lanterns come into operation the shops and cafes will close.
only when the businesses liven their ideas up will things change.

13:1530742Hi Howard. I did think of that from some comments on another post, but being the time of year, some businesses may show some goodwill to all (men, x), shoppers.
