On todays news its annouced that 2 top ministry of defence officials are being asked to leave.
They were going to stay on.
Mr Stirrup was happy to stay on, but todays cobbled together government have asked him to go

There's gotta be a good headline in this..I'll have a go...
Jock Stirrup Strapped in Stitch Up!
Jock Strapped in Stir-up!
Yes Jock Stirrup leader of the armed forces has been shoved out early. The Tories want him out although the language is polite. He is seen, as is his whitehall cohort, as being tarred with the previous administration brush. So they have been leant on.
Liam Fox is ringing changes clearly wanting fresh faces receptive to the Conservative viewpoint.
There is also an item in one of the heavier papers today that he is planning cuts in frontline troops too, much against promises. This is just newspaper speculation at the moment but the story has credence according to some commentators.

seems a bit odd, both the last government and this one backed the war in afghanistan.
surely mr stirrup is non political anyway?
Well, maybe today's "cobbled together" Government has more idea of how to run a country and a war than the previous shambles of a government that only knew how to tax, borrow and spend!
A change at the military top is not unusual and is welcome as may bring a fresh view of events and how to proceed. There may also have been some grumbling about our troops falling under the command of the U.S.
Who cares? Hopefully a fresh impetus from fresh leaders will get our boys and girls home earlier.

the language from Liam Fox is deeply insulting to Jock Stirrup - to infer that he did not do enough for or care about frontline troops is outrageous.

I agree with you Ross on that, a disgraceful slur on the man.
Seems to be about the failings of the previous administration. An inciteful article on the Beeb website:
