06:3230418I read about this in a newspaper article the other day that leading tourist attraction Walt Disney World Resort Florida has chosen Britain for its first official town-twinning project.
The company is inviting Britons aged over 18 to nominate their home village, town or city to become the chosen location. A Disney party will be staged at the winning town in January.
So come Dover submit your applications now..we have a fairy tale castle, dark dungeons and rolling green fields.Dover is the busiest passenger port in the world and the gateway to Europe being twinned with Disney would be a fantastic shot in the arm.

07:2530424They'd need to action section 215 first Marek !
It is true that being twinned with Disney would be fantastic, but too many poeple would have to have a CAN DO attitude.
Another thought is that we don't have enough numbers here to count - do we ?

I posted a few months ago about a £50k grant that was available for towns to help with the High St.No one answered my question as to whether DDC had applied for a grant and if not why not.
If I was running Dover I would put in for the twinning, apply for a govt grant to regenerate the High St,redecorate the properties then bang the bill and invoice to the landlords. No one in Dover, in a position of power, has the balls to do anything without at least 30 tea and biscuit meetings.
Any young organisation in Dover can submit an application for Dover to be twinned with Disney without any backing from those lazy arsed over paid non decision making buffons at Whitfield.
This is a great opportunity don't let it pass Dover by!!

Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

15:0930455Roger put S/215 back from where it come from. I think what Marek has said in his post is very good. And I also think Dover could run with this.
As we all know in the U.S.A. there are about 8 or more towns with the name of DOVER, they are named after us,also the town of Dover U.K. is a town which is know all over the world.
I think the Town Council is the best bet to take this on.All it needs is someone who has all the facts backed up with some paper work to go and see them.

15:4530457I agree with much what you say Marek, but as an individual I cannot do much. I can ask, write and suggest many things, but to do anything worthwhile I need to be a part of an organisation or body.
My understanding was that Margate was one of the Towns to receive that money, but no one has come forward to advise if DDC applied for it - I will ask the question though.
As we are talking about twinning, this is a civic function and I would have thought that Dover Town Council (maybe with DDC help or input if required) would be teh appropriate body. As you rightly say, enormous benefits and our position (geographically) must give us an advantage.
I wouldn't say that the officers/staff at DDC are lazy-arsed, over-paid or non-decision making baffoons at all.
It's easy for us to criticise from afar (and I'm not talking Jersey), but there is much that is good that goes on at DDC that we are unaware of.

15:5630458Why do you say forget about section 215 Vic. ? because you couldn't take it anywhere I shouldn't try ?
I'm meeting Paul Watkins next week to discuss it, so at least I'll know if it can work or not.

If everyone on the forum emailed DDC and asked the questions (a) did DDC apply for the £50k grant available from the govt for High St regeneration and if not why not and (b) will the DDC be applying to have Dover twinned with Disney and if not why not then perhaps poor old Roger wouldn't have to hold his breath for so long.
C'mon Roger publish an email address that WE can all contact and bombard
