    i was always told (like paul) that the cliffs to the side of the eastern docks were almost hollowed out, holding fuel storage tanks, in the event of invasion.

    the reason being that our german friends would be taken by surprise when we re-invaded, knowing a stockpile of fuel was to hand.

    i am sure that i was ed connell that told me this.
