On Friday night I attended a meeting hosted by K.C.C. and the Thanet Greeters,as they are hoping to start a new Dover Area Greeters, this is a scheme where local people meet and greet visitors to the Town.
Tell them the best places to visit and advise on all things local, this scheme was started in New York about 20 years ago,and also started in Thanet last year, and they were hoping to start the same scheme in Dover Deal and Sandwich.
The meeting was attended by about 20 people mainly it seemed from Deal but also from Kent Tourism, Debbie Dainton from the T.I.C. Adele Reidy was also there,a Town Councillor from Sandwich and local people, this was covered in the Mercury last week.
It does not pay and uses local peoples knowledge and enthusiasm for thier Town, all the greeters sights are linked to the same web site, what was strange was there were few people from Dover and few Councillors yet these scheme is backed by KCC,DDC and the Town Councils from Dover Deal and Sandwich, now being a Councillor at DDC you would have thought I would have heard about it from the Officers at DDC.Wrong I heard about it from Dover Lions Club as a member?
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
I have nothing to say....(make the most of that moment!)
