Great idea Colin. I have been thinking along the same lines. Surely it would not be too expensive to produce a leaflet with a simple map, with places of interest marked. A kind of trail that tourists could follow, even without a guide. The leaflet could be just black and white, very simple, so therefore cheap, and be placed in all the shops in and around the Market Square which is where tourists seem to migrate to. I have seen loads of them there, looking around but not knowing where to go. Even possibly be placed somewhere in the Cruise Terminal. It would not have to cost a fortune and would possibly lead to more interest which could be followed up.
Sorry, have just read above post, but I think that ten plaques for two walks is possibly not enough, and do visitors know where the Visitor Information Centre is? I don't!! It should be clearly signposted from the seafront onwards if you want tourists from the cruise ships to use it.
