An interesting development (if that is the right word for it) within the old Dover harbour has occurred at some unknown date recently which may not be widely known .A pontoon has been placed across the entrance to the Wellington Dock swing bridge and lock gates. It would seem that boat access through there will no longer be possible and that as a result the lock gates dating I think from 1845 and the swing bridge will probably not now open in future,or if they did,it would be to little purpose. At the same time the lock gates through the new cut are now opened at high tides when previously the old gates were opened at such times.
