I remember well being at a Secondary School (in Kent!) where the School Library was transformed over the Summer Holidays into a Learning Centre as it had more little-read books than Chairman Mao's China.
This involved filling a number of large skips with the unread books, replacing tables and chairs with more 'comfortable' furniture and installing a bank of computers so the little darlings could spend their lunchtime by-passing the school's firewall and playing shoot-em-up games and looking for pictures of Britney Spears' front-bottom!
This was roughly the same time that we started teaching all secondary school kids 'Citizenship'.
