10:4910393Hi all,
Just wondered where I can get a copy of Dover Life? I was chatting to Bob Adams last week in Deal and he mentioned it to me in passing.
Would be very interested to see the magazine.
Regards,
Andy

11:4810400I wonder what the costs were for setting up & printing 5000 copies of Dover Life not to mention reporters, photographers time and fee's and lets not forget the launch party.Yep the credit crunch and the loss of £100m in Icelandic banks is certainly having an effect on the DDC....not!.

14:0010417errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm Marek, just £1m, thats all, under 3% of the portfolio I understand. Besides what on earth does DDC\'s budget and finances have to do with DTC, nothing is the answer. Come on Marek, you can do better!!!

Where do the DTC obtain their funding from?
£100m was KKC involvement of, I believe Dover is still part of Kent(although sometimes I'm not too sure)
KCC are now thinking of forming their own bank to hold their reserves.Any suggestions for names for the new bank?

14:5310421Not from DDC Marek, look on your Council Tax bill, they decide and charge their own precept, not capped in the way DDC are.

16:3310424I'm surprised that DTC should choose "Dover Life" as a title. That's what TCM called theirs.
I just hope it makes a profit otherwise the council could very well be castigated for wasting rate payer's money on a glossy magazine.

16:3710425Is it true there's a Status Quo CD as a free gift with issue 1?

17:3410427It's about tourism Andrew and what Dover has to offer, buildings like the old cinema in Castle Street, the eighth wonder of the modern world Burlington House, The masses of well-known shops, YMCA, Sense, Scope, Heart Foundation and many others.
Couple this with the teeming night life, after all we are the busiest passenger seaport in the World and you can see why people swarm to Dover.

17:3910428I took a box of these for work, the map is extremely useful for anyone visiting Dover, one day I came into work to find them piled in our kitchen, when I asked my boss why they were there he said it is not a railway publication and we are not advertising Dover District Council!
I pointed out to him that it was in fact a Dover Town Council booklet and it has a good map in it that is useful to us,he said we are not allowed to display them(we weren't) and the big boss wanted to throw them in the bin.So we now smuggle them to anyone who wants one, they are in a secret location in the office!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

01:0310458Without wishing to appear biased here, it really is a good magazine and one Jan should be rightly proud of precipitating. Unlike most other 'council' publications this actually does have something for everyone and does tell you a lot about the town. As John says, the map alone tells you more about what to see and do in Dover than other councils more self-serving publications. Call into the office and get one, it is worth it.

06:1010462I thought it was lovely & it sold me - twice! I went on the ghost tour up the castle on the strength of that magazine & I also went to the the newly reburbished Marquis.
Both were great

08:2110471You must have too much money Jeanette - the Marquis indeed.
I've put a posting on the other Dover Life thread - front page.
Just to add to Terry's comment about the title - Dover Life, I talked to Graphic-Images' Dave Little about it, pointing out my concerns about it - that it was the same title as the one for our failed TCM and that to use the same title would mean it is associated with failure - I still feel that, to a certain extent, but I was assured I was just being paranoid - what do other people think ?

14:2710482From the early indications the new DTC 'Dover Life' appears to be getting a wider distribution than TCM's former publication and. so far, I have only heard a couple of people making any comparison about the title. Wasn't it our own hard working Town Clerk who, while heading TCM, came up with the name?

17:5010497It may have been Chris, but I thought it was David Somers who started that - he took it from Chris Tuthill (who does this website); I believe the (TCM) website had the same name, but Chris sectioned a bit off for TCM.
