09:5810874I know some of you have been to the musuem and seen the wonderful exhibition showing toys from Yesteryear. It really is worth a visit. On Wednesday I was there with other forumites and there were several children present who had won prizes in the art competition.Nigel got very excited seing toys that he had as a child .I just loved the Gypsy Caravan .When I was a child we had an old chap living in a caravan in the grounds of our house .
I could not find a Rupert Annual, many others on display but not a Rupert .Ah Well perhaps Father Christmas will bring me one
Free to Dover District residents and the shop has some lovely goodies on sale .

10:2510876A fair few years back Barry W-S gave me a Rupert Annual as a Christmas present.Im sure Im remembering this right. I had too many books and eventually gave them all to ColetteB to sell em all in the end...but dont think she ever got round to it. The Rupert Annual was one of them. Never had Rupert as a kid so didnt really relate to it, we had our own stuff in 'de Emerald Oisle'. But if we still have it would be happy for you to have it Sue...no problem, leave it with me.

12:3910880I am a big Rupert fan myself, started buying them for my girls when they were babies and have continued on to this day so we have quite a collection of them now, almost 20 years worth. Yes PaulB I think Barry did give you a special edition one year, cant remember why but I will ask him and if we still have it, would be more than happy to pass on to Sue
I have always loved the Twinkle Annual too but alas haven't been able to find one for a few years now, think they just stopped publishing.

13:0510884Sue did want a particular childs book
To give the musuem a new look
She searched high and low to no avail
When up popped Paul wagging his tail
"For I have one for you Sue"
"I'll ask Posh Barry to pass it to you"
What a good little O'irish bear PaulB is..children

The 1936 Annual Cover
I have just looked up the price of a '36 edition it would cost you approx £1100 depending upon the condition.

13:3810890Very nice cover there well done Marek...excellent. Yes if we can dig this Annual out of the attic ( its not the one shown of course) we can present it to Sue and take a picture for our frontpage. Sue can even wear her hat.

14:5010896Just to let you know Sue, 'Hooked on Books' (on the High Street at the top of Ladywell) have a good selection of old Rupert annuals in stock at this very moment.
See, you really can get what you want in Dover.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

20:1410905rupert was and still is an icon, not quite so happy with his dress sense though.
i seem to remember it was check trousers, red jumper complemented with a yellow scarf.
he did have some jug handles on the side of his head too.
the toys at the museum are brilliant, the kids that go in there are absolutely entranced by the stuff from days gone by.

23:2410913I thought you might pick up on that Howard .Yes I lived in an old farm house in Essex .High Easter .We had an outside pump for water which froze in the Winter and ran dry in the Summer ,Surrounded by corn fields .
I lived there for the first seven years of my life then moved half a mile away to a thatched cottage which we ran as an off licence. That also was surrounded by corn fields .We had to walk a quater of a mile for two buckets of water each day for our needs .
Im sure the Musuem would be pleased to borrow the Rupert book Collete for the Exhibition .

08:3110918Jean and I attended on Wednesday evening too. It was great to see so many toys and games from the past and still enthused at and played by the youngsters of today.
I used to like Rupert too and I have a whole pile of "Boys Own" weekly magazines from the 20 and early 30's, mostly in pretty good condition.

salad days indeed, i know high easter quite well and the "rodings" that surround it.
i think i must have visited that farmhouse many years back.
met the local game keeper, nice chap, barbour wax jacket, yellow waistcoat, flat cap, the whole job.
when is say that i met him, to be more concise, he pointed his gun at me and gave me 10 seconds to drop the rabbits and vacate the area.
