What a super day.Very well organised and saw a number of forumites working very hard all day..Terry on the sound system did an excellent job.Stewart(Tez) running around like a blue...bottle fly.I left him stacking chairs at 5pm.DavidH with his team of fair trade players. Thanks for the Carnival invite David..
Lucy and Paul selling tickets for the paper boat race in the searing sunshine...i do hope you replaced that bench you purloined.
But my biggest thanks goes to Mandy and her fantastic court. The new dresses for the girls are stunning and what a contribution they all made today.Never once did any of them sulk or get moody but they threw themselves wholeheartedly into the spirit of things. They all get on so well together its so refreshing to see youngsters enjoying the finer things in life and giving up their time to attend these type of events.
However on a down note Mandy conned me into attending with promises of a beer tent selling ice cold lager...i was dying of thirst but water had to suffice as the beer tent was just a figment of her over active imagination...lol and who ate all my wine gums??
A great day and my love goes to all the court it was a real privilege to spend the day with you all.
See you all next week in Pencester for the Hellfire Corner Day...now wheres my beer?..

Thanks for your comments Marek, it was nice to meet you at last.
We did have problems with the sound. The amplifiers and speaker system are mine. The microphone systems belongs to KCC. I have to say that it is top flight kit, I only wish that I could afford it. However, during the first half one or two of the mics failed. During the interval we changed all the batteries thinking that it might cure the problem. As it happens things got steadily worse as each mic failed on us. In the end we resorted to a handheld mic. I'm sorry that it detracted from the show and we will look into the problem.
Mike McFarnell doesn't post on here but I know that he would like to thank all those who took part. Even the headmaster of the College mucked in and played the role that his predecessor did 100 years ago!
I enjoyed it................
..................but I ain't doing it again!

Pageant was fantastic and everyone soldiered on despite the mic problems. This was my first pageant and I very much hope not my last. The little ones taking part were brilliant, the little chap in chainmail waving his sword around was a complete star. Does anyone know the proper names for the cadets who were on parade while Kas was singing?

Sorry Jean and I couldn't be there either - we were away.
Glad it was a good day despite the mike probs. good pictures in the papers.
Who played Henry V111 ? Mike wanted me to dress up as "'Enery", so we booked a holiday (only joking) but I was interested to hear what other portly-person took on the role.
Maybe there needs to be a paid events Manager for Dover - one central focal point.

I thoght Dover Town Council employed someone to arrange events he certainly was around for The Archery event. This person has now left but Im not sure if the post has been filled.I thought The Dover Festival was to bring events together??All events on DDC land go through a committee,we also get notified of other events which are posted on our web site.

Roger, Henry VIII was played by Theodore McMenamin (all of 17 years old!) from the Dover Youth Theatre, Saskia was busy studying for her GCSE's so unfortunately couldn't take part.
Sue, the post of events manager I believe is still filled but not being put into effect, why, I don't know as there are so many missed opportunities for the town.

Shame, we really do need a fully paid up events manager who would put Dover first and foremost.

that is a bit of a sore point colette.
i seem to remember some years back, being told that the "tourism" bod had a brief to take negative comments to task.
nothing about the positive things.
earlier this year our roger concocted a day out for the cruise passenger all here in dover.
picked up from the vessel taken around, lunch and high tea thrown in, then taken back to the ship.
the high flyers ditch it, why?

Thanks Colette.
Someone from the Town Council could answer the question about events manager; I understand that the chap employed to do that - and raise funds for the Town Council is no longer in their employ.
I think it does need a fully paid events manager - someone to organise and promote them, but no one wants to pay for one.
I did indeed create some local cruise-day excursions for Dover, but they were not picked up as you say Howard - I don't know why - they were affordable too.
Not every one wants a great big castle or palace to look round, as we have discovered on our recent cruise.
Roger
Dover Town council have never employed anyone to organise events - each event we organise is managed by the committeee clerk with help. The Pageant was Mikes event and he didn't ask for any help from us as far as I know other than sponsorship which the DTC willingly gave.
Oh yes and he had our tent and me! And of course the Deputy Mayor and other councillors.

If it isn't inflammatory (and it's not supposed to be), the person you are talking about was Richard Styles. I understood he was events-manager and fund-raiser for the Town Council.
Is that not the case then David ? - I apologise if I have it wrong.
I don't think Richard organised the Archery event, that would have been done by Sportswork UK Ltd.

Roger is correct I wasnt going to give out the name.Yes Sportswork Uk Ltd sorted out the competitors, however DDC and DTC arranged everything else.Mr Styles arranged the Boat burning on the beach, the day a lot of people got parking tickets?? My son successfully appealed A lot of time and agro.DDC now use larger posters when they suspend bays ,and make sure they are placed over the meter.Lessons learnt methinks.
