Port privatisation is a no-goer. The ferry operators at Dover are all in financial difficulties, competition among them and from Channel Tunnel makes it impossible to increase the tickets without losing many customers to the tunnel. So the tickets are too cheap!
Who would dream of spending 300 million pounds to buy Dover Port - or worse still 800 million pounds, knowing they could not increase the prices of the tickets as otherwise the ferry companies would all go bankrupt? No-one!
For a buyer to get all that money back plua a profit AND a constant contribution to a Dover charitable fund, the ticket prices would have to rise considerably!
