On the news today it was reported that where in the p;ast lead theft was the big item to be stolen, this has now changed, and drain covers are being stolen on a large scale, although the thefts in themselves are bad enough and costly to replace both in time and financial ways.
The danger aspect of a missing drain cover is one of real concern

I read a news report to that effect. Most drain covers use to be made by NEEDHAMS in Stockport (my birthplace funnily enough at Stepping Hill

) However that foundary has now closed so I am unsure where they are made now but scrap metal prices have soared.

They are being replaced by plastic ones in Bradford.
