Wednesday saw we three sitting having an ice cream in a motorway station near Arras ( we took Victoria to Vimy Ridge).

There was a customs minibus parked nearby and as a young man was walking back to his car, a dog ran up to him all excited and was swiftly followed by his handler. The young man was suddenly surrounded by 8 pistol carrying officers in fatigues and brought to his car next to us where his family were sitting - it was then they realised that the matter was getting out of hand - the mother looked amazed and the panicked as they began to strip the car.

We left in order not to stress V any more but she learnt a lesson that day - followed by the afganistan report on the growing of poppies on TV.

Today I am considering what if the British carried out such spot checks on our motorway service areas or even at events around the country?

I doubt that they would have to wait long for a catch and it would scare people into thing more about drugs.

BTW I was amazed at how certain the dog was about the find as he was so excited and positive. He had a good day anyway.
