  I'm staggered that this thread has plumbed such depths. A decent sense of perspective would have helped here, but it seems common sense is hardly common at all. Barry can plead his line about 'I vos only obeying ze law' all he likes, but it's an overreaction to a friendly gesture by a decent man and shouldn't have been misinterpreted as election treating - and furthermore, I think he's aware of that.
  
  I don't recall any threats about reporting Vic to the standards board or PC Plod, either, so we shouldn't overreact to crass Tory bullying. Rise to the bait? Nah, just let the readers decide for themselves who's made an arse of themselves over this.
