At the start of the campaign I offered lunch in Blakes to the winners of a competition to guess the election result. Two chances to win, either with the percentages or the number of seats....
Since the competition was closed we had the LibDem surge in the polls but that subsided in the vote but no-one managed to get anywhere close to their total of 23%.
However several entrants were much closer with the two main parties and three were nearly spot on with the Conservatives. The winner though is the of those three who was spot on with Labour as well, that was - Marek.... his guesses were 29% for Labour and 37% for Conservatives.
Regarding the seats there was a much wider spread with Marek again being closest but as he already won on percentages I looked for who was next. No-one was really very close but there were two who, though very different in their results, when my formula was applied were closest, for whom it was a toss-up, Bern and Andy Cooper. One though was marginally closer, Bern, predicting 289 C, 268 L and 61 LD..... so Bern it is with a 'variance' of 31 compared to 39 for Andy.
Marek - let me know when you are next in Dover and I will make arrangements with Peter Garstin at Blakes.
Bern - I will let you contact me and see if we can arrange lunch sometime.
Congratulations....
Well done to Marek and Bern.

Thanks BarryW.
It was an interesting election..and we are still awaiting the outcome!!
I am sorry I won..as I would have loved a Labour landslide but sometimes you have to stop your heart ruling your head.Hope you had a good night at Blakes. My old mate Derek attended but has no recollection of how and when he got home.
Please pass on my regards to Peter.

It's a stitch up! I tried to change my prediction at 10pm on polling day, but apparently I was 'too late' and that the queue of people in front of me had precedence, but that's just flannel. I think there should be a public enquiry. My changed prediction would have been Conservatives 306, Labour 258, Lib/Dems 57, Others 28, which would have been spot on......if Barry were half decent he'd acknowledge the justice in my claim to victory and get the Krug on ice.
True friends stab you in the front.
Barry - I will always be happy to lunch with you! Variance and sublety are sexy words indeed, quite genuinely! I will call you. By way of encouragement, my favoutite drink is and will always be champagne.
