A few years back Chris I wrote to DHB, the name of the chap escapes me for the moment..oh yes Bill Fawcus it was..about the possibility of having pleasant white seafront lights strung along from Millers as it was then to the top of the promenade.Just imagine, it could be a nice thing, not only for visitors but for locals too. The seafront is desperately underused..there is nothing to attract people to it other than the obvious sunny day scenario. In the evening its dead as the preverbial dornail. I mentioned to idea too to DDC (Nigel) and indeed the story was featured by Mary Graham in The Mercury. Roger also joined in to see if he could get something going.
Although I had a pleasant letter back from Bill Fawcus, with some optimism as I remember, nothing ever happened. He also took onboard what I said about the poor seafront lighting too, but alas nothing happened there either.
It was pointed out to me by a number of official bods the difficulty of spanning lights between the already inplace lamposts. However during the Regatta they have no trouble spanning sounds systems between these posts.
The original letters are all lost now due to collapsing website difficulties over the years and collapsing computers.
