Noticed in recent weeks that there seems to be a lot more Brown Trout than usual and some look very big. I am just talking about the stretch from the police station through Pencester Gardens, don't know if it is the same up stream.

I walk the Barton Path stretch and there seems to be a lot less recently!
It might because it's becoming overgrown with weeds and nettles.

The stretch from the police station is also overgrown with vegetation and the rubbish thrown on top op of it but the water level seems very high considering we have not had much rain, last time I was down Barton Path there was little vegetation and rubbish but the water level seemed low.

It's not just trout - last year one of the clean-up volunteers disturbed a flounder under the bridge behind the police station.

I can't even see the river from Maison Dieu Road by Morrison there is so much vegetation this year, but there is a small clump of bulrush, I have not noticed them in previous years.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Jan, that was planned with the works that took place a couple of years ago. The channels left are much deeper than before so still plenty of fast moving water to keep the fish happy, and the beds provide loads of insects for them to feed on - hence Howard's observation.
The EA will probably be along next month to cut back excessive weed, flood prevention works ready for the autumn rains.

Thanks Ray, I wasn't complaining by the way just making an observation although I do miss seeing the ducks.

Was at The Bull earlier, There's a moorhen nest in the river with a parent and 5 chicks (last week 7 chicks), also a female mallard going up and down river with her quite well-developed offspring about 6 of them.
Also moorhen and chicks near Cherry Tree scrapyard this morning.

The above is a picture of the River at Morrisons taken just 7 or 8 days ago. Lots of lush vegetation as you can see.
Thinking back i remembered we did use a very similar picture last year 2014 and here it is below. Not much difference in the level of vegetation. it looks good....
