11:3667392If you're stuck for an idea for something to do on what looks like being a dreary Bank Holiday weekend, how about taking a look in at a brand new event in Folkestone over the coming three days?
Folkestone Quilt Show is being staged for the first time ever, 10.30am - 5pm for the next three days at St Saviour's Church, Canterbury Road, Folkestone. As with all new events, it could with plenty of support, and I can tell you that the work on show is really top notch stuff, not just quilts but all manner of needlework that showcases wonderfully the enormous talent locally. Almost every piece on show is made by local ladies within a 15-mile radius of Dover; admission is FREE!! with a limited amount of free on-site parking available plus refreshments available to buy.
The Fabric Fairy is supporting the event - I do have a stall there, but for me it's less about takings than it is about supporting my friend Jenny Hoyle who's sunk an enormous amount of hard work into this, so I hope that lending my presence there will draw more people to the show. If you're a lady (or gent!) thinking of taking up needlework as a hobby, there will be plenty of people there to talk to about it, from quilting to dressmaking and even cross-stitch (The Fabric Fairy knows quite a bit about that!), so it would be a great opportunity to come and see what you are capable of......some of the stuff on display there is by ladies who only took the hobby up two years ago and thought it was beyond them!
For those of you with Sat Nav, the postcode is CT19 5NR - see you there!

15:4567418Andy, you say three days, is that Sat, Sun and Monday ? I hope to go, have a Folkestone friend who is an expert quilter, expect she has had a hand in the organisation. The quilt displays are wonderful and well worth seeing. Usually lots of stalls there too where you can buy things for craftwork.

18:1567808Nice to see Kath & Bob Hollingsbee this afternoon, and I can report that the show has been a great success thus far, with one day still to go. Although, as I said earlier, it's not about takings, yesterday was the singlemost succesful single day's trading The Fabric Fairy has enjoyed. If tomorrow is even a moderate day trading-wise, it will have been the best weekend's business I've ever done.
Thanks to all who have supported this wonderful event. Jenny Hoyle is overwhelmed by the support.

22:3067889Good to see you both Andy, and what a wonderful selection of fabrics for patchwork - always too tempting! Look forward to using what I bought.
Marvellous display of quilts, what a lot !! and some wonderful jackets and waistcoats; the patchwork and quilting items for sale were all very reasonably priced considering the hours and hours of work. Hope you have another good day tomorrow.
Our friend Ann Hooper had quite lot of her work on display, and was kept busy in the kitchen when we visited.
