A FORMER police officer has today been jailed for making indecent images of children.
Thomas Peter Simmons, 61, worked for Kent Police in Folkestone before moving to Dover District Council to work as a fraud officer.
The Kingsnorth Gardens, Folkestone, resident left DDC following his arrest on suspicion of child porn charges last year.
Simmons, 61, pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children and was today,Thursday 12th March, sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to a year in prison.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham, of Kent Police's Public Protection Crime Unit, said: "Downloading images of children being subjected to real time abuse is as severe an offence as the real time abuse those children are suffering
This chap was also a Port Unit Special Branch Officer and was often featured in the local rags as a champion against benefit fraud.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
First I need to say that this man is clearly a ******* and will hopefully get the hard time he deserves in prison. But it also, for me, illustrates perfectly how complex we all are and how we are so much more than the sum of what we do and have done. Good people do bad things and bad people do good things. Htler was a vegetarian, Margaret Thatcher....well, perhaps there are some exceptions......But I am constantly fascinated by the complexity of us all and how there is no such thing as an entirely evil, or indeed an entirely decent, person. Having said that, there is something incomprehensively and unfathomably horrible and nauseating about this kind of crime.

I agree Bern, the human psyche is very complex.
I do believe that (adult) people are basically either good or bad, mostly determined during their childhood.

I wonder if he will "get the hard time he deserves in prison." Sex offenders are kept in segregated wings in prison and the whole of HMP Maidstone is about to be used for sex offenders, with a small contingent of foreign detainees. They may find they enjoy being in the company of like-minded deviants and spend their time swapping anecdotes and experiences.
