  Big houses like those in the Folkestone Road and all around the country hark back to the days when wealthy families had staff who needed quarters. Conversions were inevitable but in certain areas local authorities were more sensible and only allowed them to be converted into 2/3 bedroomed flats to attract families. From what I have been told there are 2 or 3 families sharing kitchen and bathroom facilities in some of our local hovels with landlords raking it in.
