02:1130097It appears that the Shadow Chancellor has difficulty in grasping simple figures.
The think-tank that advised him on savings in the economy have reported that his figures are a mere £3 billion adrift.
Good work George nice to know that we can trust you with the nations' purse. I always did say that the man was a joke, my case rests.

07:4230109Depending on who you believe but the roughly accepted figure George Osborne raised was calculated at £7billion. However it is a mere drop in the bucket in relation to whats outstanding.Once again this figure varies and all down to who you beleive...but gawd knows! but the overall shortfall seems to be calculated at £80billion and Ive even seen £170billion mentioned. So lots of figures being bandied about in scattergun style.
But following along from George...the figure is so far short of our deficit that clearly there are income tax burdens coming along like a wolf in sheeps clothing. Too harsh to mention at a Conservative Conference as it might get the wrong headlines. The message at the Conference was...austerity! but perhaps too much autserity might put the voter off, a little bit of austerity shows up well in the opinion polls. It comes across as good management.

07:4730111The enormous debt we have is not expected to be cleared for around 25 years or more, not one year; continuous chipping away at it, without destroying people's lives is what should be done - the interest alone must be astronomic.

07:5130112it is also worth pointing out again... as this Im sure its going to play a part in the forthcoming Election. George Osborne is extremely rich. He is heir to a multi-million pound fortune. He has that soft well fed silver spoon look which clearly indicates he has never known a days hardship, clearly never struggled like you and me as we try to muster up the rent for our Clapham bedsit, as I did once upon a time myself, never struggled like you and me to get a mortgage then try to pay it and so forth and so on.
Cameron is the same..connected to the Royal family as I understand it with all the doors that that opens up. Very rich too, and left feeling uncomfortable last sunday when asked by Andrew Marr exactly how rich he was.
Why are we seeing that these guys can relate to our sufferings? But we are. See the opinion polls. Its a victory for PR and marketing again.

08:0230115Spot on. These guys have paid well to be marketed well, and as we know, advertising works! You could sell Beatles records to Heather Mills with the right marketing. You can almost see "show time" come up behind these guys eyes when the give interviews.

I would not want to get into whether or not Mr OSBOURN is rich or not, or iwho he stood on to become rich.
Whats more worrying is his gaff, shows like people are saying on the street
YOU STILL CANT TRUST THE TORIES.

08:4630122Roger, the structural defecit, that which will not be reduced over the next growth cycle by economic growth is estimated at £90bn. This is what must be dealt with within the next 7/8 years as that is the legth of a normal growth cycle before we hit a recessionary buffer. We do not have 25 years to deal with it or the starting point for the next recession will be as bad as the starting point for this one, or worse.
GO himself said that the measure announced in his speech were only a start, yes worth £7bn as PaulB said. Other measures have been announced, an end to ID Cards, the regional government structure, the NHS database and so on. The whole way Government does business will be changing as a way to deal with this defecit.
My own concern is that DC still sticks to his beliefe that it can be done while not reducing NHS spend. the NHS should be suject to budget cuts with only the MoD's overall budget protected.
DC says smaller Government is needed and that is what we will be getting and people will have to get used to Government not poking its nose into everything and to stop looking to Government and legislation to solve every problem, if only because Governments make things worse more often than not as well as costing a fortune.
The next Parliament will be the most radical ever.
PaulB - It is sad that you persist in this class war rubbish. It seems to be all Labour supporters have to hang on to and that says it all really.
Keith - open your eyes, the truth is being told by the Conservatives, Labour are still trying still to hide behind lies. The public have caught on.

09:0030126it is a fact that messrs osborne and cameron have known what it is like to struggle.
when they talk about hard choices, the hard choices will not affect them.
not class war at all, politicians should be able to empathise with the ordinary population.

09:0830127..."not class war at all, politicians should be able to empathise with the ordinary population."
Like our wonderful snouts-in-the-trough Labour government, then. After all, they've proved for the past 12 years just how compassionate and in touch with so-called real people they are, haven't they? Don't make me laugh.
I don't give a stuff that Cameron and Osborne have got a few bob in the bank. It's irrelevant. The only question is whether or not they are up to the job which the current treacherous lemmings clearly aren't.
Call Me Dave and Georgie Boy deserve a chance to sort out the appalling mess this desperate busted flush of a government has left us in.

10:1130132The point you make is good: all shades and persuasions of politicians are smeared with the same faecal matter with the expenses stuff. There used to be a "class war" agenda, but since most politicians are lining/have lined their own pockets and bought an education that is less of an issue. the issue now is, across the board, privilege and the removal from reality that it brings. Sad, but I sometimes almost miss the class war rallying cries.........never thought I would miss that!!!!! nevertheless, the erosion of that struggle has provided another.

10:1530135There are, according to reports, 100 MP's that are to be questioned or asked to repay some or all of their expenses claims over the last 5 years!!!
Fiddle your expenses claim and see how far you get.

11:4930139Whether you like it or not there is still a THEM and us situation, maybe not a class war, but never the less people out there are seriously struggling, the benefits systems needs an overhaul, and as BARRYW indicates the tories cant achieve without cuts to the NHS as well(so not so honest there then?
)
The tories(G O) MUST get there figures right, and explain wot they are to cut in public spending
