  Ah, the "Danger of Death" signs. Reminds me of the time I managed the building of a new computer suite in France.
  
  The suite was protected by smoke detectors and halon gas (okay in those days but not now) and cctv. For those who don't know, halon gas was the standard fire suppressant some years ago. When set off, halon gas basically removes oxygen from the environment and thereby kills any fire, almost instantly.
  
  Anyway, recognising the French smoked wherever they fancied, I figured the last thing needed was for one to be in the room smoking and to set off the halon gas. Death would come pretty quickly. Hence, I arranged big "Danger of Death" signs, in French and English, for the door of the computer suite AND inside the suite itself.
  
  Visiting some days later I was greeted by a pile of cigarette ends just inside the computer suite! Aparently the French workers disabled the fire protection systems when they wanted a smoke. I forced the local manager to sit and watch several hours of boring cctv footage until such times as we had identified the rogues, all of whom were invited to go and work elsewhere.
  
  To this day I wonder if a "No Smoking - Danger of being sacked" notice would have been more effective?
