My silly season slumber has been rudely awakened by some information that I have just heard. The World Economic Forum has rated the productivity of public sectors in most nations....

Productivity in our public sector fell by 3.2% between 1997 and 2007.

The UK is 76th out of 134 countries on efficiency of public spending. The shame of it... but read on, it gets worse.

1st is Singapore, not too surprised at that or Finland (5th) and Sweden (18th).

But and here is the rub, we are also behind Greece (75th), Mozambique (70th), Tajikistan (68th) and Ethiopia (46th)."

This underlines an experience Alison had with the health service on a small Greek island recently. The NHS fell short.

This is what Labour have brought us to. That massive boost in spending is just going down the drain, the Ethiopians are better at public spending than us!
