As for the rest of it, it seems it's just another chance for insulation companies and those desperate for business in the field to tout their wares.
According to the bumph on their website the event "will have exhibitors from green energy firms, window specialists, Insulation providers and groups involved in the sustainable renovation of older homes."
The payback time for replacing all single glazed windows with double glazing in the average sized house takes an average of 94 years to claw back any savings on energy bills.
They had reps from the government's green deal scheme. The number of people who have actually signed up to this scheme can be counted on the fingers of two hands. People know a con trick when it's so obvious.
Of course then we still have labour's cack handed attempt to woo prospective voters into believing that they can lower their bills by voting them back in even though labour U-turned the next day saying it was impossible to deliver.

I have lived in poorly maintained private rented accommodation, and have battled in vain against icy blasts and know well the futility of ramping-up the heating-fuel costs without feeling the merest benefit, but I did not do so for long.
I hit upon the notion of using durable double-sided sticky tape (cutting the 3cm wide reels into three) and sticking it around the draughty window frame, and then cutting-up a polythene dust sheet to just over the dimensions of the window, I then stuck the plastic sheeting up as secondary glazing...and then sat back in my virtually draught-free, economically heated flat and watched as it was now the wind's turn to blow in vain in its attempts at entry.
N.B.
There is a clear danger in stopping all air circulation, especially if you use some sort of naked flame heater. But if there are draughty windows in rooms you use less frequently or in the hallway or on the stairs...every little helps.

The only shame about it all was that they didn't bring more vuvuzelas to the event to help drown out his incessant dronings. I'm sure I heard one member of the crowd shout "For Christ's sake don't even think of singing I don't like Mondays".
Still he gets his rocks off doing this sort of thing. I guess there's a great rush to be had by standing on a stage like a sandwich board man in Oxford street preaching eat more nuts and the end of the world is nigh.
Bet I could do better than him. I'd rant and rage over the price of a pint and how it has ruined my usual weekend sessions at the local.
Now that's something to get vewy, vewy cwoss about.
