The post you are reporting:
Tom.
Certainly no need to apologise.
You will know that the only reason for my posting this thread, was to remember the brave miners who lost their lives that day and to their families, even their great grandchildren, who still endure the memories of this avoidable disaster.
It is not enough, just to commemorate and remember these disasters, your #5 post is one of thousands of true stories that need to be told.
Just how many brave miners and in this case their children, died needlessly because of the contempt that was always shown to our miners and their families?
The miners at Gresford Colliery died because of the mine owners blind disregard and contempt, to human life.
They fined 1 man £150 for killing 266 brave miners and ruined thousands of other lives in the process.
Those responsible should have all been imprisoned for life.
Alongside our brave men and women who fought in our wars, our British Miners stood up there with the best of them.
Your post sums up our miners very well and true, with the last paragraph.
"An important part of this fund is still alive and running. The Disaster Committee set up a fund to help students. This means that the output of the Committee's efforts is still available for students from the village or for children whose parents were living in Aberfan at the time of the disaster..."
Even after all the hyena's fought over the scraps from human misery at Abervan. the Miners Spirit shone through and even today, their children and other children from their communities, are still being looked after.
That is our Mining Community Spirit that will never be broken,
