For many months now the Dover Express have been quoting from a political pollster website about the lead Charlie Elphicke (Conservative Candidate) has been enjoying over standing labour MP Gwyn Prosser. All looked doom and gloom for our Labour MP despite his best efforts for the community. It looked as though Charlie would just sail in on the crest of the Conservative resurgent wave.
But hold on...whats this I see in yesterdays paper. Its all change again. Gwyn has bounced back in fine style and is now ahead of Charlie in the polls, and is predicted on the current standing very likely to keep his seat yet again at the next election.
Six or so months back Gwyn was suffering badly pollwise on account of the awful performance of Gordon Brown. The whole Labour machine was in disarray at the time, with many of their MP's throughout the country looking at the prospect of saying goodbye to their parliamentary careers. But then a re-awakening. Gordon Brown came into his own at our time of economic need and re-emerged as a kind of superman striding the dizzy heights of financial captaincy and competance. We, the voters, felt re-assured that the right man was at the tiller. Gordon's personal position in the polls soared once again.
This new confidence in Gordon Brown has clearly permeated out to the sticks, out to the grass roots, and Gwyn Prosser MP will be tackling his daily Weetabix with renewed viquor seeing this latest poll showing his 3% lead.
