Do you remember when you were at school the Gypsy tart was the bestest pudding you could get.Well the other day I was talking to Bobby Roston and fellow forumite Sheila Amos came by.The subject got round as it does to Gypsy Tart and Bobby told me that Sheila made the Tart like they used to at School.
As Sheila is a friend and in my quest to find the feeling of eating a Gypsy Tart like we had at School,I suggested to Sheila that perhaps when she made Bobby one she could also make me one.
A couple of days later Bobby said I have got your Gypsy Tart,so I picked it up and believe me it is not easy when you are on your bike.Slipped into a tin and in my rucksack.Got it home and hid it from the Mrs so she didn't eat it,why waste it on someone else when you can eat it all.....after all it is a Gypsy Tart...
At the first opportunity straight in.....oh my god......its the real thing.....
Sheila will you marry me and make me happy with your Gypsy Tarts

I can't propose to Sheila
so as second-best ... is there a recipe?? Puurrrleeease??
For years I've tried to make a Gypsy Tart, with different recipes I've been given, and the failure is always the same. Total.
Thank heavens, the Gypsy Tart hasn't yet gone the same politically-correct way as the Acne'd Richard!!

Yesterday on my way to a Council meeting on the bus these 2 ladies were talking about Gyspy Tart and they said you can never find it like it tasted at School and you got an apple, well I swopped the apple for another piece of tart.Anyway I sat on the Bus and smiled I have found super woman who can make it,and I wasn't going to tell them!

I've tried Gypsy Tart once before in 'Barry's' bakery in Ashford (no relation), is it meant to be that sweet? It seemed to taste of condensed milk and sugar, am I right? I'll have to check out the recipe

I can make it too ......
I make it for my daughter sometimes but its very fattening cos all it is is evaporated milk and brown sugar in a pastry case - naughty but nice lol
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Glad you enjoyed it John, if you are going to Bobby's 50th birthday bash, I've got my orders to make some for it, as doing the buffet

All deserved Sheila, you are the queen of gypsy tarts.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
