    My Dad always saw, and still does see 'trick or treating' as a glorified begging. Explaining he was always quite happy to buy us sweets as opposed to us knocking on peoples doors. I have a similar take on the American style plastic 'festival' we are presented with today. Although I will be taking my kids to a party on Saturday.

    I've always thought Halloween to be Pagan, although hijacked by the Catholic Church in more recent history...much like Easter, hot-cross buns...and Christmas for that fact. (all things I quite like)

    It's a bit like when the BBC manages to slip a report from 'Panorama' into the news. And then when you see the mentioned program you start to think it's an ultra-current topic.

    I would think that the pentagram predates Christianity too; the Ancient Greeks loved a good pentagram. Most of these symbols and dates have been resurrected a good few times.
