Howard - "that must be some pumpkin you have there kath, do you enter competitions with it?"
Howard - this is the first year I have grown one of the special 'giant' pumpkin plants -
our village pub, Plough & Harrow, here at Tilmanstone, was selling the plants at £5 each for charity (Air Ambulance I think), and pumpkins will be judged on, I think, 31 October.
I read on an American website about growing giant pumpkins you shold allow 400-square feet (!!!) to each plant, so it can spread and put down extra roots from the branches !!
Mine has about a square yard of ground but is spreading its huge leaves around. Pumpkin seems to be growing daily, larger than a big football now. Have buried some raw fish heads near its roots.
