My (other) brother and his partner live in Cyprus, about 20 minutes drive from Paphos and they get this heating allowance.
I have said to them both that they shouldn't be getting this money, it's for people living here. Obviously they'll take it while it's offered, but it shouldn't be offered.
I can't believe it's beyond the wit of man (or even politicians or civil servants) to stop paying this.
They'll probably say it would cost more to set up a scheme to separate them, than to continue with the payments.
The other payment that is worked out in a strange way, is pension payments to overseas (British) residents; why do some countries have the increases that they get at home and some don't ?
I thought it might have had something to do with Commonwealth countries, but it doesn't so I'd love to know why the rises in pension doesn't apply to some countries, but it does to others.
