Vic, This new thread is for you, Hell fires burning under St Margaret's. Full storey
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/mar/04/coal-gasification-ccs
King coal is ready for a British comeback in a form that sounds more like medieval hellfire than an energy source for the 21st century. But could it be green? The stakes are high - not least because the company behind the plan has captured the high ground in environmental marketing by calling itself Clean Coal Limited.
The idea is this. Forget about mining coal, and instead burn entire coal seams in situ underground, then tap the gases that the fires give off to put in gas turbines and generate electricity. Unknown to most residents, the company has already obtained licenses from the UK Coal Authority to do this at five sites round Britain's coast.

Come on Vic, Campaign for Green Coal Emissions. Look at the employment and revenue it would produce and i am sure it would brighten up the St Margret's countryside.

Gary
I don't understand what St Margaret's has to do with all this, the sites quoted are Sunderland, Grimsby, Swansea Bay and the Solway Firth. It's already being trialled off Queensland, Australia - and frankly, if it passes environmental tests in Australia, then it's good for me. Nobody treats the environment with more sensitivity than the Australians, not even the car-hating Swiss.
At face value, this looks good.
True friends stab you in the front.

I think he know's I'm the councillor for St Margaret's as well as Guston, Andy.
They always had a baiting sense of humour the Cox's. Years of drinking with rascally characters.

And to think that millions of pounds was spent in the past on preventing underground fires in coal mines!
