Yes wasnt he the only survivor of the early Flying Corp or something ...but I heard a little item on the news R4 this morning about him. A year or two back they asked him what the secret for old age was...and he said
"Cigareets and whiskey and wild wild wimmin.!!"
So there you have it. More fags drinkin and wimmin and you cant go wrong!!
Someone should write a song in that vein one of these days !

astonishing man, very humble.
always maintained that his longevity was on behalf of his comrades that died in their youth.
it seemed like he would live for ever.
Peace at last henry. RIP.

A wondeful old chap who had seen so much during his lifetime - some great innovations, one of which we'll celebrate next week-end; he'd have heard of, if not seen some terrible things too.
Born 5 years before Queen Victoria's death, 3 years before the Boar War. No cars or planes, just ships to travel in.
Rest in Peace indeed.

Rest in Peace, Henry Allingham. He did his duty.
When he went to the Somme in 2006, Henry Allingham was asked how he would want to be remembered. He said, "I don't. I want to be forgotten. Remember the others"
We do. We remember them all - we do not forget. In tribute to him and his wise words; here, on the day that he died, the oldest man in the world, are others, Dovorians, who never fulfilled their span of days.
William Weller 1916, aged 46
John Disbury 1944, aged 26
George Lapham 1943, aged 29
James Sayer 1916 aged 25
George Gilbertson 1915, 46
Charles Wentworth Reeve 1916
Henry Allingham said, of the accolades he was receiving, "I feel that I don't deserve it. It's trading on other men who did so much for me and everyone else here."
As are all our lives. We are forever grateful.

A terrible loss of a great man. It will be a sad day when Harry Patch joins Henry and the Great War finally slips from living memory.
We are so fortunate to have organisations such as the DWMP to ensure the memories are kept in the consciousness of the generations to follow, who unlike ourselves, will have no living witnesses.
Farewell Henry - your deeds and all those of your fallen comrades will not be forgotten.
