Well there doesnt seem to be any shortage of gulls around here...there was plenty of them clattering and banging on my roof at 6am..causing a right furore. I myself dont mind the gulls but as for the pigeons..Grrrrr!!
But back to the gulls. Not being an expert or anything on birds of any kind, but I have noticed there are different types lingering on the beach here. One group for example have black wings all the way across on the top side, another type are smaller than the general gulls but have a smaller head and are a tad greyer.
AS you can see these descriptions are hardly of ornithological merit or quality but you get the general gist. Its probably a particular species within the species that is probably in difficulty. There are a lot of probablys in that last sentence!
However as to a shortage... no dont thinkso. When a firework display goes off or the gun fires at the Castle, a million of them takes to the skies down here in downtown Dover. Still advisable to keep all rubbish bins fully lidded.
