    Andy, you can still get if fixed at your own cost, and take the insurance company write-off cheque. My daughter did this for her ccar a few months back. She got it fixed properly for much less than the write off value, so actually made a few quid on the accident. There was some fiddling around with documents for the DVLA, but nothing traumatic.

    Her insurers knew what she was doing and even though they wrote off her car, they actually insure it still.
