today on the front page of a satirical magazine there was a photo of the pope addressing the masses in st peters square.
in the crowd below one chaps says to his friend "at one time small boys used to dream of entering the priesthood", his friend replies " nowdays, it is the other way around".
Holy Week? Surely you mean wholly weak?
A habit both vile and unsavoury,
Kept the Bishop of London in slavery,
With lecherous howls,
He deflowered little owls,
That he kept in an underground aviary.
And as for the Bishop of Birmingham! (I'll leave you to Google it yourself, but the last line is extremely clever and makes it my all time favourite limerick)......
Howard,
The priest took the choirboys to the belfry where he told them off.

vic
the joke is about fallible human creeps not about any divine being.
Vic, I fail to see that any of the comments on here would offend the God of the New Testament (though hopefully they WILL offend those who claim to serve Him but do not follow His teachings).
J.C. himself was a pain in the arse to those who claimed to speak for God but didn't and indeed looking at the Easter story according to the King James Version 'the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him'.
Meanwhile a Happy and Peaceful Easter to all readers.
P.S. if you want to put your money where your faith is, according to Reuters the odds on the Pope resigning have been slashed from 12/1 to 3/1. I should have put my 30 pieces of silver on last week!

at the risk of getting a "fatwa" put on me, may i proffer an old story about the "last supper".
our messiah and his disciples were sitting grim faced at the wooden table waiting for the gruel to arrive.
suddenly peter the fisherman bursts in with brown paper bags bursting to the seams with chinese takeways.
our hero, totally shocked says "i cannot afford to pay for all this", the answer comes back "no probs, judas has just come into some money".

Just a snapshot of St Mary`s today, with a little foreground colour.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
Having read a great review in last week's Spectator went to a stunning art show today at Paddock Wood of all places (so accessible by train)!
22 pieces all based on the crucifixion and FREE entry. Highly recommended and not just by me....
"This is a powerful collection of images ... from the point of view of every variety of belief, doubt or unbelief: a deeply moving and questioning exhibition." Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury.
