.. and what about all the genetically modified stuff? like (most?) maize imported into UK, and a lot of tomatoes....
Apparently when developing tomatoes which lasted longer on shelves they added a fish gene to the genes. Then they found the skins were too tough, so they added a gene from rubber plant ....
Nowadays it's a case of 'maize with everything', it's in 90% of all packaged and pre-prepared foods (some organics escaped as maize appears to be mostly modified), and not only foods, they put it in tablets and pills as a BULKING AGENT... Even things like paracetamol, aspirin etc. Maize starch mostly used because it is the cheapest. They occasionally use wheat starch, sometimes rice starch. I have quite a problem finding things I CAN EAT as I have a maize intolerance, and it is NO JOKE !! The wheat intolerance I can more easily cope with as it is usually labelled 'gluten free' etc. but maize is not gluten !!
Manufacturers have a lot to answer for with the things they put into food - just look at lists of ingredients in packaged foods, ice creams etc..
Do YOU know what they all are ??
