Today's Times has a list of the best places to eat fish and chips in the UK. Hythe Bay, Dover is featured at no.10 out of 30.
The Smokehouse, Folkestone is number 2. This should encourage those passing through Dover to stop and enjoy a walk along our beautiful promenade followed by a fish supper.

Well done to them but I wonder how many of those passing through will stop rather than continue to Hythe having only remembered Hythe Bay and not registered the Dover.
I have always thought this restaurant's name was wrong for this area.

Also not the best fish & chips to be had in Dover! Tony's, (only name I know it by), London Road is best ever and consistently so.

But it is a positive reference to Dover in the national press. The fish and chips are good there and the views are amazing. Dovorians take the prom, cliffs and sea views for granted. They are very special to those who don't see them every day.

How do they find out? do they go to all the fish and chips outlets in the UK.?
This might be fun to the ones who write this kind of rubbish but it could do harm to other outlets ie--if there was four outlets in one town and they only list one so all the public use that one and the others go bust but infact all four outlets do very good fish and chips

That's just silly. Everyone has their favourite "chippie" and tends to stick to it. Having said that, I do agree about the name and also with Judith that a stroll along our lovely prom followed by a fish and chip supper sounds lovely!
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

I have looked hythe bays menu, and at £12 a head in proves to be out of reach for most dover people.

I know these lists are a bit silly and I don't suppose there is much serious research involved in compiling them. The outlets listed were sit down restaurants rather the local chippie. This is a positive recommendation for Dover in the national press. Deal was declared best High Street by the Daily Telegraph and local businesses and organisations were quick to use that in their literature. We all know that Deal is lovely, but I can think of many small towns that have much better High Streets. This is the sort of publicity that we need for Dover to encourage people to visit the town and use its businesses when they are passing through. Dover town centre will only regenerate if people, local and visitors, are encouraged to use the town and its businesses.

Absolutrely Jacqui and Judith.
Shop Local is a theme I used to use all the time and it is still valid now, perhaps more so.

The smokehouse in Folkestone is wonderful, £7.50 for a very large cod and chips, the best I've ever eaten, go and try it!

I have had Hythe Bay's fish & chips on several occasions and while they are very good, Wetherspoons' Fish Friday offer at £5.99 including a pint of ale or a glass of wine is far better value, and nearly as good.

Agree totally with Judith.
This inclusion can only be good for Dover.
The Times article also has a picture of the interior of the restaurant with view out across the balcony to a blue, blue Dover harbour!
