The verdict of unlawful killing seems absolutely correct in my opinion.
This policeman is nothing more than a legal thug, none of the pictures I have seen warranted the poor man being pushed or hit with a baton. I saw a report that showed the same policeman also knocked over a cameraman at the same G20 protest for no real reason.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

the bits of film we have been shown are quite extraordinary, mr tomlinson seems to be doing nothing wrong at all.
the police have to weed out the bad apples.

I am not normally one to agree over this kind of thing and tend to prefer to give the police the benefit of the doubt in difficult circumstances. But it is hard to do that when you see that film and in this case I can't be supportive of the police officer.

It also raises questions of police handling of major events and actions such as 'kettling' which while understandable on some levels do lead to questions over freedom of movement and expression. Perhaps time for an open debate on the whole issue.

There is no doubt that Kettling is illegal as it amounts to false imprisonment. To make it legal every person detained must be told why they are to be detained and individually cautioned.

Is it the NYPD that have the slogan, "To serve and protect." ?
[It may not be the NYPD as I have just Googled it and of all the stuff that comes up NY is missing, there is much besides, nevertheless.]
I wonder if our Police 'Service' has a motto/slogan or if any could be suggested?
"My comrade, right or wrong." ?
"Vee 'ave vays to make you not valk." ?

kettling is a nasty as well as illegal action.
people are cooped up without access to food, drink and toilet facilities, hardly a surprise when things turn nasty.
it is the action of a police state.
