03:2573375Hi Kath
You interest me with the junghans watch as I have had several of that make indeed one currently is my wrist decoration! They were one of the first to have radio time keeping and make very high quality pieces. jon Vincent are the only company I know that repair them though yours would probably be able to be sorted by the local agent in Deal.
I might be interested if you wish to dispose although I am clearing my artifacts in a big way at the moment and gave the last junghans as a prize at the mayors ball. I do however like to see nice things working as they should. mainly cameras in my case as well as cars but watches third.

10:3473384Yes, I too like to see things repaired. When I took another watch to someone locally for repair I showed him the Junghans pocket watch and his remark was that it needed too much work to get it repaired. I wonder who the 'local agent in Deal' is who may be able to give advice on it?
Here are some pictures of the inside:

10:4073385Ian - that's a wonderful piece of scrimshaw - looks 'early' has it got a date on it? Obviously depicts whalers. Was it a family piece?

15:3973519OK what about a nice V.C.
If Dover can't have the award certain people have been campaigning for then I would love to award Dover a V.C.

17:4273718Medieval coin, Ludvig of Bavaria - very similar in design to English long cross coins, so was probably used here. Found near Dover. About 3/4 of inch across.

22:0373888Very interesting Kath, it makes one wonder where we pick these things up from.
I see you are all impressed with my V.C. I'll show you the flip side and wait for answers.
Not very good I'm afraid. It reads......Pte E. ROE. YORKSHIRE REG. 1915

22:2873893It matters not what rank you are Howard. It was issued for valour and no less.
When our historians on the forum have had a little delve I will tell you more.

09:0673904One of the first things that I did after we moved into London Road was to sort out the partition wall between the hall and front room on the first floor. As built, it was hessian and 1" boarding. I plaster boarded it both sides.
Underneath the hessian I found these two cards placed there by the builders when the house was built.

20:4073971Sorry Ian, I sometimes miss things, I saw the watches, but missed your V.C. It`s a very fine medal mate, and from what I remember, they`re much sort after, and alot depend`s on who they belonged to. Have you had this one long?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
