having checked the list of VC recpitants not able to see Pte E Rowe.
So, was it a replica that his wartime comrades gave for a heroic act that was never recognised.

22:0973992Pte E Rowe, when said aloud, is hero without the H so my guess would be a joke medal, unless anyone knows otherwise.

That is the story I was told, where it came from I have no idea, who made it I havent a clue.
But none the less an interesting artifact.

22:4574006The one I was looking at was Private G.E.Roe of the Kings Own Yorkshire Reg.
Shot at dawn in 1915 for desertion, aged 19
he did win a VC

R.A.D Reichsarbeitsdienst/National Workers Service.
One of the rarest figure subjects produced at Allach, and the only surviving example known to the auther.
The base is signed 'T. Karner', and is impressed 'Allach' below the entwined S.S rune mark within a raised octogon and is serial numbered 77.
More to follow.

14:3974511I'd go for Staffordshire regiment too. They were based in Connaught Barracks in the late sixties. One of them met my mother, a Dovorian, and so here am I typing this...

18:1374687It would be an early South Staffords cap badge as the later one had the Prince of Wales feathers above the knot, I think.

20:5174724OK here we go, I won't do long postings as I may get timed out. again.
Iv'e been checking my facts and this is the story.
The figure belonged to a married couple in Germany in the mid to late 30s. She belonged to the B.D.M and he belonged to the hitler youth. He later ( sorry names withheld ) became a major in the R.A.D ( National workers service ) and was awarded this very special figurine for services to the Fatherland.
Close to the end of the war he was captured by the Russians and excecuted, after the war his widow came to england and re married bringing the figure with her, this was later passed on to a relative of mine and is now in VERY safe keeping. It lives in dusters in a very small suitcase.
Copies of this figure were made in the late 80s by a relative and are also very rare.

This is a copy pof the original made from resin.
The Allach factory was a part of the Auschwitz death camp ( inside or outside is not clear ) but the Russians destroyed everything in its path, factory and all contents.
When I next see the original I will take a few photos.

18:3074850Here is something which a neighbour has, it was dug up in a garden near Tilmanstone, not far from the old pilgrim's footpath years ago. It is about 3 inches long, quite thick, made of something like marble.
Not yet been able to get it properly identified, nor age.
One person suggested it appeared to be crudely carved so may have been made by a miner, to carry with him to Tilmanstone mine, not sure whether I go for that explanation though. Has anyone seen anything like it before?

18:3374853Kath, there is an inscription underneath, and it seams Anglo-Saxon script, judging by the letters' shapes.
