Nature abhors a vacuum, they say. One such vacuum if it is not quite filled by Journo-blogging-commentators it is topped-up by the sundry views of we, the great unwashed.
The estimation that less than 1% of readers turn their hand to appending a comment of their own to the 'learned' out-pourings of the professional is no more than an idle boast.

Patently, the same can be said of those plying-their-trade by writing the article/blog.

newspapers more so than blogs, a great pity as there must be plenty of interesting points made but i never bother to look through to find them. - 7 September 2012 19:29190435Sky News has a comments section, the comments are informative.
Until a few months ago one could vote Sky News comments, which was so much more interesting.
Then they changed this, so now you can only read comments without votes from other readers, and this has dampened down the interest.
There were some glorious times when some of my comments were the most voted, the score going into the hundreds.
On one occasion someone - by way of comment - publicly praised me together with Eric Pickles owing to a comment I had written in defence of the Christian Faith.
