Over the years we have seen wars fought(some even for just cause!) then we have the scandals in the church's, then the MP's expenses scandal,
Are you like me and just want a nice quiet life, where as human beings we all get on, and these things that disrupt our lives just don't happen.
I realise I'm asking a lot, but what do others think?
100% agree Keith, but I'd add having a successful footie team to watch to the list.

grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.
Can you imagine how fatally dull life would be without these events though? All the conflict of religion vs reason, socialism vs capitalism, greed vs generosity, with a few good scandals thrown in here and there, make life a rich tapestry of intellectual and philosophical challenge, forcing us to either focus on and define our own moral stance or encouraging us to sink our heads in the sand. I'm not trivializing the facts that many of these events have real harmful effects on real people but let's face it, if everything went right all the time and people behaved properly day in, day out, I think our imaginations, our understanding of morality, and our very intellectual growth would rot and fester to the point where we became mindless social zombies.

i think rick is right on this one, we need stimulus to keep us going.
just a matter of keeping things in perspective.
just as an example, in glasgow there is an intense rivalry between celtic and rangers, great stuff, bragging rights to the winners, sadly the minus side is that every now and again a tragedy happens when someone takes it too far.

I do understand your view on life being ordinary.
but we can have a varied life without killing each other,
or all those things that got the church's into disrepute
or what the MP's scandal was about.
but hey if we accept that this is what makes the world go round, suppose not much hope for the future.
Keith. Saw the thread title 'is it just me' and thought it was about voting Labour!
