    Not a 'battleship' - they stopped building those in the 1940's Howard and besides an order for the Royal Navy would not have been placed with a Warsaw Pact country.

    I think what you are referrring to was a huge subsudy to Poland to build merchants ships in the UK. These subsidised ships went on to compete with the British Merchant Navy, contributing to its demise.

    Government intervention in industry has always been a disaster.
