Breaking news that a hostage has recently been executed, held for months, these hostage takers warned if there demands were not met they would execute the british hostage.
On sunday they sadly did kill him.
I'm a great believer in not giving in to terrorists or hostage takers, but imagine yourself in the familys position at this time
My heart goes out to them at this very sad time

Here, here, a terrible time for the family and you are right we must nevertheless not give in to these people as it only encourages more hostage taking.

i would imagine that the foreign office were working behind the scenes on this one.
no comfort to the families though.

The foreign office may have been working behind the scenes but it didnt do much good. Why?? because they wont pay the ransom demand. There were 5 or 6 other hostages..assorted europeans and canadians, and they have all long since gone home, because their governments paid the ransom. Im not sure if this current policy is the right one.
I know the old theory, you pay one and their will be an upsurge in hostage taking...but I guess you have to take a chance. The time has come for a change in policy now, let that man's death be the last death. Have perhaps an insurance fund with Lloyds to cover it.

paul
the floodgates would be open.
every tourist on a spanish beach would be an eta target, the list is endless.
the terrorists have shot themselves in the foot this time, many muslims that might have supported them will be shocked by the murder of an innocent victim.
Or not. I never get the impression that the muslim population as a whole in middle eastern countries is much exercised by the plight of european hostages. And the floodgates are already open - we are all potential targets.

It is a worrying change.

Could the day dawn when a British hostage - you or I - is plucked from this country by Muslim terrorists?
