Hahahahaaa!!! I had to laugh when I saw this one.
Jesus in Jeans is the church's latest attempt to contemporize the Christ character. By depicting the ancient geezer as a modern, trendy chav with baggy jeans and a wind-blown T-shirt, short hair and goatie beard, and posing like a Saturday morning kid's gameshow host announcing the winner, they believe people will "connect" better with the image of Jesus and accept him more readily.
Obviously, traditionalists and purists find it highly controversial, modernists love it, but the rest of the public seem to think it's all a bit silly. Frankly I find it hilarious, not only as a ludicrously duff piece of sculpture which should win a big CHEESY award, but that the Catholic church who own it believe that people are stupid enough to fall for it like some sort of bait in a mousetrap. Yeah, it's really going to increase church attendance (chuckle chuckle).
I'm reminded of the comical Jesus Buddy which has made millions of people laugh over the last few years. Is this new statue not just an extended vision of that cheesy, comedic icon?
Now, if they gave Jesus a mobile phone, PlayStation controller, and tin of special brew, then maybe I might be interested. Hahaha!!!!!!
