Just received this from the Highays Agency:
We will be installing new expansion joints across the carriageway at the East and West abutments/end of the structure.
The expansion joints will be installed across both carriageways of the bridge, and these works will take place for 7 weeks from Friday 18th January 2013.
The works will take place night-time between 8pm and 6am during the weekdays and Saturdays and 24 hours working on Sundays, involving a full closure of the bridge in both directions.
A sign-posted diversion route will be in place for coastbound road users via Whitfield Roundabout to join the A256 and then the A20 to continue with their journeys, and Londonbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse.
The carriageway will be re-opened each day with no restrictions in place.

Presumably the diversion signs will also be in Polish, German, Dutch, French, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish and Serbo-Croat? Otherwise they will all just follow their satnavs and come charging down Castle Hill all night with their 44-tonners.
