I am very selective in what I watch on TV as time is too precious to just sit and watch whatever happens to be on. Usually I set my PVR using series link to record what I want to watch and often there may only be a couple of programmes set.
A couple of weeks back early evening I was flicking through channels, as you do, and came across a programme with the presenter shouting at someone calling him a 'waster' and worse. Having grabbed my attention I watched for a while and discovered it was a programme I had heard about but had never seen. It was Jeremy Kyle and since then I have made the point of recording a couple of programmes and I watched them a few days ago.
I was amazed and how refreshing it is to see someone tell people few home truths, he really does not mince his words. This junk TV is perhaps not so junky because there are a lot of people out there who really need to be told a few home truths and torn to strips.
What I can't understand is why these people actually want to go on this programme to be exposed as the filth they really are. Is 5 minutes of fame, even in that context, really so desirable these days? Or are they so thick that they don't realise how pathetic/sad/moronic etc they really are.

it is a badge of honour for the underclass to be insulted by jeremy kyle and kyle makes a good pretence of being outraged.
the couple that have just been charged with murdering 5 of their children starred on there some time back.

I believe it is because they are " pathetic/sad/moronic etc" with the desire for their "5 minutes of fame" desire thrown in.
Many moons ago I used to watch Kilroy but got bored after a while when you see similar pathetic people with their similar pathetic stories over and over again. Life is much too short, I like to learn something new from my daytime TV.

Jeremy Kyle certainly tells it like it is. I confess I have watched the programme a few times when I was recovering from minor surgery and day time TV becomes something to pass the time a bit after reading etc. To me it seemed to be like one long round of 'Who's the daddy?' with DNA test after DNA test. As you say why these people want to go on this programme to be exposed as they really are is beyond me. Whatever happened to dealing with things in private or as a family? If that was to be my five minutes of fame I think I'd pass!

Ive seen this once or twice and it truly is 'orrible. Oddly enough my daughter likes watching it I believe.. bewildering, when she has free time at Uni. The people that fetch up on there are fairly ghastly, all suffering essentially from a lack of education sad to say. What ever happened to Tony Blair's education education education...but there we are. Education is the solution I would suggest.
The people on it are being exploited of course and dont see it, so someone somewhere is making a quck buck at their expense. Truly is Thrash TV. But it has run for a long time so must be getting fairly good viewing figures..but not me I hasten to add.

"...he was addicted to gambling, which led to the disintegration of a very short marriage in 1990. His former wife said he stole thousands from her in the service of his habit, which he has now kicked. He says he has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and licks his mobile phone to see if it's clean..." But, enough about the man himself.

"Refreshing" to see someone with half a brain insulting and belittling people with no brains for entertainment!! It is everything that is wrong with TV.

Shame. I always thought the programme treated its working-class guests with respect, enabling them to reach a dignified resolution to their personal and relationship problems. It was never cruel and humiliating, and repeatedly confounded crass class and social stereotyping.

Now, where did I put that 9-bob note?

I have only ever caught bits of this show and thought how can they seriously justify putting such rubbish on TV.
I guess those who liked watching it are the same as those who in the distant past enjoyed watching a public hanging.
